Air in fuel line? What is up with that?

Greetings,
Need your help with this one for sure.
I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata that I am working on. I needed to drain the the gas out of the fuel tank. So, I removed the fuel line just before the fuel rail and put on a clear hose to drain into a gas can. Then I removed the fuel while I pumped out about 8 gallons. I have my idea where the air was coming from, but I am interested in other opinions. What do you think?
